The background + sketch took me three hours to do and the rest took me five hours on another day.
Well while I'm wasting a little of my life during the break I mind as well do something. I was planning having a cat nap but I also was planing on doing this at some point.
NOTE: This took me about five hours to do yesterday. I had no breaks at all which I should have, I was hungry while cleaning up. I was going to do touch ups but I had to listen to my body, dinner was calling.
NOTE: Once I finish with the touch ups I will add it to my gallery. Next will be Marilyn Monroe.
Here's a timeline of my watercolor portrait that I finished. As you can see I started off with the face then the shirt since the hair would be on top. I made sure the black watercolor was light enough so the tips of the hair can be seen. The hair was the longest in this progress. I kept leaving water lines so that the watercolor would easily flow down and spread to speed up the process. After that I bristle out drops from a toothbrush to the empty space. Then I stripped up the hat and left empty spaces in between. I did this to show more of the shape of the hat around her head. Adding in shadows did the trick. Lastly I did touch ups by whiting areas like the eyes since there were spills. I added in light eyelashes which are hardly seen, but that's the point.
I finished up the clothing with black watercolor and now I'm just starting on the hair. The eyes are a mixture of violet and blue to make it dark but faded look. Every time I look the portrait, it looks like I meant to make a cloudy sky but end up changing my mind and started making a portrait instead. I was thinking of making the hat yellow or green or both. Whatever the color it is I would drip it into her hair.
